Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
D+
ValueA-

TradesF
FutureA+
The Giants let Simmons fall and pounced. Final grade: D+. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Giants watched Josh Simmons slide 97 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
Reaching for Vann left real value on the table behind him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick12
Rnd1
Will Johnson
A slide stopped in the 12th pick, with Will Johnson worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick37
Rnd2
Benjamin Morrison
Benjamin Morrison at the 37th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jalen Milroe
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Milroe at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick39
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
They took Walter Nolen at par in pick 39, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick46
Rnd2
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at No. 46 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick70
Rnd3
Drew Allar
The board had Drew Allar higher than slot 70, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick71
Rnd3
Antwane Wells Jr.
They will replay Antwane Wells Jr. at pick No. 71 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick72
Rnd3
Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. slipping to No. 72 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick73
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Value with a capital V on Tate Ratledge in pick No. 73, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102
Rnd4
Ajani Cornelius
The board fumbled Ajani Cornelius all the way to the 102nd overall pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
They barely believed it either: Oscar Delp still on the board at slot 103. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick134
Rnd5
Barion Brown
Taking Barion Brown in Round 5, Pick 6 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick135
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
They robbed the room for Earnest Greene III here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick136
Rnd5
Garrett Nussmeier
Garrett Nussmeier in the 136th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick137
Rnd5
Andrew Mukuba
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Andrew Mukuba in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138
Rnd5
Rylie Mills
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Rylie Mills reach Round 5, Pick 10 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne in No. 139 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick166
Rnd6
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott at the 166th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick169
Rnd6
Jason Henderson
They let Jason Henderson come to them and pounced at pick No. 169. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick170
Rnd6
Josh Simmons
Somehow Josh Simmons was still sitting there in the 170th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick195
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III in pick 195 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick198
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jack Kiser. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick199
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
A swing that ignored the value entirely, J.J. Weaver well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick201
Rnd7
Noah Fifita
A quarterback of that caliber at slot 201 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick219
Rnd7
Davin Vann
Davin Vann in pick No. 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
