Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
D
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Giants answered their biggest question with Beck. Grade: D. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Xavier Watts, slot 134, roughly 88 picks past where he belonged. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They have staked the next five years on Carson Beck, which is the only story that really matters here. The veteran additions, Richie Grant chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In pick No. 14 they get an anchor for the offensive line, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick17
Rnd1
Benjamin Morrison
Benjamin Morrison is a better player than the Round 1 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at pick 38 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick54
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
They robbed the room for Colston Loveland here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick55
Rnd2
Abdul Carter
Abdul Carter at the 55th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick56
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Somehow Kenneth Grant was still sitting there in pick No. 56, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102
Rnd4
Mykel Williams
Mykel Williams in Round 4, Pick 6 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120
Rnd4
Omarion Hampton
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in No. 120, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick134
Rnd5
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in the 134th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. in No. 139 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166
Rnd6
Jamaree Caldwell
Taking Jamaree Caldwell in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick198
Rnd7
Marques Cox
Marques Cox slid further than he should have, and pick 198 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick219
Rnd7
Kaidon Salter
They will replay Kaidon Salter at the 219th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
