Draft Grade — Giants

FutureB-
The Giants finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Giants started one anyway for Tommy Mellott, 117 picks ahead of schedule.
Landing Neal that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here.
They went 9 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In the 2nd pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick65
Rnd3
James Pearce Jr.
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 65 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick67
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Somehow Tate Ratledge was still sitting there in the 67th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick104
Rnd4
Omarion Hampton
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in pick 104, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick134
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 134 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick157
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
Taking Jay Higgins in No. 157 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool in pick No. 219 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220
Rnd7
Justin Walley
Value said wait; Justin Walley in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick223
Rnd7
Deion Burks
Deion Burks at the 223rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227
Rnd7
Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson at the 227th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick228
Rnd7
Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim in slot 228 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick235
Rnd7
Tommy Mellott
They talked themselves into Tommy Mellott at Round 7, Pick 21, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236
Rnd7
Devin Neal
Devin Neal at pick 236 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick245
Rnd7
Rod Moore
They will replay Rod Moore at Round 7, Pick 31 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick246
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They barely believed it either: Jamon Dumas-Johnson still on the board at No. 246. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick247
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Shilo Sanders. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick249
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at the 249th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick251
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris in the 251st overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick254
Rnd7
Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick256
Rnd7
Phillip Webb
Phillip Webb in pick No. 256 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
