Draft Grade — Giants
Overall B+
ValueA NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Sanders is the Giants' new face under center. Grade: B+.

Call it larceny. Cameron Ward sat on the board until Round 5, Pick 24, and the Giants did not need to be asked twice.

Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The Carter pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In pick 25 they get their guy under center for the next decade, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick26 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In the 26th overall pick they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38 Rnd2 Harold Perkins Jr.
They barely believed it either: Harold Perkins Jr. still on the board at the 38th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick49 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
You do not let a safety like Malaki Starks reach Round 2, Pick 17 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70 Rnd3 Evan Stewart
They will replay Evan Stewart at the 70th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71 Rnd3 Abdul Carter
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Abdul Carter while clear needs at interior defensive lineman sat open.
Pick72 Rnd3 Tacario Davis
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Tacario Davis in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick73 Rnd3 Mykel Williams
Circle this one: Mykel Williams at No. 73 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick74 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
They read the board right and Tate Ratledge was the payoff at slot 74. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick102 Rnd4 Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders in pick 102 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool at the 112th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick119 Rnd4 Clay Webb
Somehow Clay Webb was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 23, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick122 Rnd4 Riley Leonard
Steal is underselling it; Riley Leonard at pick No. 122 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134 Rnd5 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in slot 134 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139 Rnd5 Dasan McCullough
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dasan McCullough in No. 139. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick152 Rnd5 Cameron Ward
Cameron Ward at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick166 Rnd6 Armand Membou
Armand Membou at pick 166 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick183 Rnd6 Roman Hemby
The board fumbled Roman Hemby all the way to the 183rd overall pick, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick198 Rnd7 Jonathan Mendoza
Jonathan Mendoza is a better player than slot 198 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick205 Rnd7 Fentrell Cypress II
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Fentrell Cypress II at the 205th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219 Rnd7 Moose Muhammad III
They paid sticker price for Moose Muhammad III in pick No. 219, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
