FutureB
The Giants bet the future on Beck. The board says D. Somebody in pick 168 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Giants sat still while Conner Weigman, the No. 70 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Carson Beck is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
Vann has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In pick No. 6 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick17
Rnd1
Will Campbell
A tidy bit of business in slot 17, where Will Campbell graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick38
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant in pick No. 38 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tre Harris
Nothing to complain about; Tre Harris went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70
Rnd3
Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at the 70th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick71
Rnd3
Tory Horton
They did well to land Tory Horton in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick72
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Jackson at pick 72 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne in the 76th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick102
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro in Round 4, Pick 6 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick134
Rnd5
Garrett Nussmeier
They barely believed it either: Garrett Nussmeier still on the board at slot 134. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick136
Rnd5
Parker Brailsford
They will replay Parker Brailsford at the 136th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138
Rnd5
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor at pick 138 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick139
Rnd5
T.J. Sanders
Steal is underselling it; T.J. Sanders at pick No. 139 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick166
Rnd6
Jacobee Bryant
Jacobee Bryant slid further than he should have, and the Round 6 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick168
Rnd6
Conner Weigman
Conner Weigman in No. 168 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick169
Rnd6
Billy Bowman Jr.
Billy Bowman Jr. is a better player than the 169th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick170
Rnd6
Dorian Strong
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dorian Strong at slot 170. The roster fit checks out.
Pick198
Rnd7
Jaeden Roberts
Taking Jaeden Roberts in Round 7, Pick 6 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick199
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
No edge and no loss on J.J. Weaver in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick219
Rnd7
Lathan Ransom
Somehow Lathan Ransom was still sitting there in the 219th pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jordan James
Jordan James slipping to No. 220 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jalil Farooq
They paid sticker price for Jalil Farooq in slot 221, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick222
Rnd7
Dylan Fairchild
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dylan Fairchild at Round 7, Pick 30 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jalin Conyers
Jalin Conyers in pick 223 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224
Rnd7
Davin Vann
A big swing on Davin Vann at the 224th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
