FutureC-
The Giants left with their quarterback, and a D- to match. You could see the war room lean forward. Luther Burden III at pick 70 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They have staked the next five years on Carson Beck, which is the only story that really matters here. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
Every board in the league had Peebles lower, and that gap is the story. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a press-man option on the boundary. A real need, handled.
Pick6
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In pick No. 6 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Will Campbell
Will Campbell at slot 38 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70
Rnd3
Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III in pick No. 70 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick71
Rnd3
James Pearce Jr.
James Pearce Jr. at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick72
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to No. 72, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick73
Rnd3
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at pick 73 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick102
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
A big swing on Aeneas Peebles at the 102nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick134
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Somehow Smael Mondon Jr. was still sitting there in the 134th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick135
Rnd5
J.C. Davis
They will replay J.C. Davis at Round 5, Pick 7 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick166
Rnd6
Jaeden Roberts
Taking Jaeden Roberts in slot 166 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick198
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
They paid sticker price for Theo Wease Jr. in pick 198, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
