FutureB-
The Giants drew a line under the quarterback search with Beck: D. You build a draft on nights like this. Denzel Burke had no business being available in the Round 4 slot, and the Giants did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
Everything downstream of Carson Beck depends on Carson Beck, and the building knows it. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The cost of the White reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick17
Rnd1
Benjamin Morrison
In the 17th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick18
Rnd1
Colston Loveland
In pick 18 they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at pick No. 38 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick70
Rnd3
Dontay Corleone
Steal is underselling it; Dontay Corleone at slot 70 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick102
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
They will replay Denzel Burke at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick103
Rnd4
Wyatt Milum
No edge and no loss on Wyatt Milum in the 103rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick115
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. slid further than he should have, and No. 115 is lovely value for the linebacker. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick121
Rnd4
Graham Mertz
Graham Mertz in the 121st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick134
Rnd5
Germie Bernard
A reach on Germie Bernard in Round 5, Pick 6; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick139
Rnd5
Trey Zuhn III
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Zuhn III. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick166
Rnd6
Ricky White
Ricky White at the 166th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick179
Rnd6
Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185
Rnd6
Jamaree Caldwell
Somehow Jamaree Caldwell was still sitting there in pick No. 185, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick186
Rnd6
Hunter Wohler
A slide stopped in pick 186, with Hunter Wohler worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick187
Rnd6
Francisco Mauigoa
Francisco Mauigoa at the 187th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick198
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Theo Wease Jr. at Round 7, Pick 6 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jake Briningstool
Taking Jake Briningstool in No. 217 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick219
Rnd7
Marques Cox
Marques Cox in No. 219 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
