Quarterback settled, Ewers in the fold, and a D for the Giants. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Giants did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Put together, it is a D.
Whatever Quinn Ewers becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Landing Emmanwori that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Zak Zinter deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In slot 7 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick23
Rnd1
Colston Loveland
In the 23rd overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end. A real need, handled.
Pick28
Rnd1
Quinn Ewers
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get the arm they will build around at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick39
Rnd2
Ollie Gordon II
Value with a capital V on Ollie Gordon II in pick No. 39, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad at the 40th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick41
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
A tidy little value on Walter Nolen in No. 41, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Clay Webb
By-the-book stuff, Clay Webb at pick 88 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick89
Rnd3
Sebastian Castro
They let Sebastian Castro come to them and pounced at the 89th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick90
Rnd3
Conner Weigman
Conner Weigman at pick 90 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick91
Rnd3
Dontay Corleone
They will replay Dontay Corleone at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the 92nd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick102
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis in pick No. 102 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker is a better player than Round 4, Pick 14 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick116
Rnd4
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum at No. 116 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick134
Rnd5
Jaxson Dart
Steal is underselling it; Jaxson Dart at slot 134 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139
Rnd5
Tyler Warren
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tyler Warren in Round 5, Pick 11, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick166
Rnd6
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in pick 166 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick198
Rnd7
Ricky White III
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Ricky White III worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
They read the board right and Jalen Travis was the payoff at No. 219. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
