Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
C
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Giants let Leonard fall and pounced. Final grade: C. The Giants did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Riley Leonard fell into pick 166. It nets out a thoroughly average C.
The Bowman Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In slot 6 they get a sticky cover corner. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Somehow Emeka Egbuka was still sitting there in the 38th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick70
Rnd3
Josh Simmons
Nothing to complain about; Josh Simmons went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102
Rnd4
Evan Stewart
They will replay Evan Stewart at pick 102 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134
Rnd5
Rod Moore
Rod Moore at Round 5, Pick 6 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart in No. 144 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick145
Rnd5
Graham Mertz
Steal is underselling it; Graham Mertz at pick No. 145 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146
Rnd5
Blake Miller
Taking Blake Miller in the 146th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick147
Rnd5
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in No. 147 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick148
Rnd5
Billy Bowman Jr.
They talked themselves into Billy Bowman Jr. at the 148th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Raheim Sanders
Nice patience on Raheim Sanders, who had no business lasting to the 149th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick151
Rnd5
Jasheen Davis
A premium they did not need to pay, Jasheen Davis a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick166
Rnd6
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard at slot 166 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick177
Rnd6
Gavin Bartholomew
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Gavin Bartholomew in pick 177, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178
Rnd6
Armand Membou
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 18, where Armand Membou graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick198
Rnd7
Jonathan Mendoza
Jonathan Mendoza at the 198th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick209
Rnd7
Tim Smith
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Tim Smith reach pick No. 209 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick210
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
They barely believed it either: Jalen Travis still on the board at the Round 7 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
