FutureB
Quarterback settled, Beck in the fold, and a D for the Giants. The rest of the league will want that one back. Damien Martinez tumbling to the Giants in the 219th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The whole projection now runs through Carson Beck; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In pick No. 6 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emery Jones
Good price on Emery Jones in slot 38, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70
Rnd3
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Steal is underselling it; Tre Harris at the 71st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick72
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
Somehow TreVeyon Henderson was still sitting there in the 72nd pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick73
Rnd3
Drew Allar
You do not let a quarterback like Drew Allar reach pick No. 73 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Pick74
Rnd3
Quincy Riley
A tidy little value on Quincy Riley in pick 74, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick102
Rnd4
Dontay Corleone
They barely believed it either: Dontay Corleone still on the board at slot 102. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick134
Rnd5
Aireontae Ersery
Circle this one: Aireontae Ersery at No. 134 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135
Rnd5
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at Round 5, Pick 7 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jaxson Dart
Taking Jaxson Dart in the 139th pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick166
Rnd6
Rylie Mills
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 166th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick167
Rnd6
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in pick 167 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick198
Rnd7
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at No. 198 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219
Rnd7
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez in Round 7, Pick 27 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
