FutureA+
A passer of the future in Sanders, and a D+, for the Cowboys. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cowboys would have aced it. Quinn Carroll at the 173rd pick is 72 spots clear of where he belonged.
They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here. Landing Skattebo that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In pick 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ashton Jeanty at the 12th overall pick is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In pick No. 27 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori slid further than he should have, and the 33rd pick is lovely value for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at slot 38 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick51
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
A conviction pick on Alfred Collins at No. 51 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick67
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
Good price on TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 3, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75
Rnd3
Deone Walker
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deone Walker in the 75th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick82
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
They paid sticker price for Danny Stutsman in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94
Rnd3
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick No. 94 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick102
Rnd4
Demetrius Knight Jr.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 102 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick103
Rnd4
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in slot 103 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
By-the-book stuff, Daylen Everette at the 113th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
A straight-up fair deal on Jaeden Roberts at pick 148, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick170
Rnd5
Cam Skattebo
You do not let a running back like Cam Skattebo reach Round 5, Pick 33 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick173
Rnd5
Quinn Carroll
They left a pile of value on the table to take Quinn Carroll this early at No. 173. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
