Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Saints let Scott fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Justin Scott at the 73rd overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

With quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. If Matthews pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Leonard Moore
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
A curious use of No. 38. Quarterback, running back and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa did not.
Pick73 Rnd3 Justin Scott
Justin Scott at slot 73 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick109 Rnd4 Mike Matthews
They paid a round early for Mike Matthews in pick No. 109, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick144 Rnd5 Anthony Boswell
Anthony Boswell in Round 5, Pick 7 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick183 Rnd6 Mateen Ibirogba
Mateen Ibirogba in the 183rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
