Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Chargers.

The Ahmed Hassanein selection is the head-turner. The Chargers reached 58 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Jeanty falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In the 12th overall pick they get a featured back, outstanding value to boot.
Pick55 Rnd2 Tre Harris
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tre Harris. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
A slide stopped in No. 86, with Mason Taylor worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick125 Rnd4 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A real head-scratcher, Antwaun Powell-Ryland in slot 125 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick158 Rnd5 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in pick 158 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick181 Rnd6 Ahmed Hassanein
They talked themselves into Ahmed Hassanein at the 181st pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick199 Rnd6 Simeon Barrow Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Simeon Barrow Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick209 Rnd6 Howard Cross III
A reach on Howard Cross III in No. 209; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick214 Rnd6 Ty Hamilton
They reached a country mile for Ty Hamilton at Round 6, Pick 38, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick256 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
They did well to land Teddye Buchanan in pick No. 256, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
