FutureA+
The Steelers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The Steelers bet big and early on Taulia Tagovailoa, 148 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. It is not that Jackson is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers in the 33rd overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick50
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick65
Rnd3
Tommy Eichenberg
They reached a country mile for Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 65, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick80
Rnd3
Max Melton
A real head-scratcher, Max Melton in the 80th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick99
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
They did well to land Dominick Puni in Round 3, Pick 36, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick105
Rnd4
Tre Harris
They reached into another round for Tre Harris, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Donovan Jackson adds an offensive lineman and leaves interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots untouched.
Pick134
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at the 134th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick194
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at Round 6, Pick 19 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick237
Rnd7
Taulia Tagovailoa
They talked themselves into Taulia Tagovailoa at No. 237, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
