JayRomieO DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chargers let Skattebo fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Somebody in pick 220 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 105 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick 22 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick55
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at slot 55 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick86
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
Somehow TreVeyon Henderson was still sitting there in No. 86, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick124
Rnd4
Dylan Sampson
They barely believed it either: Dylan Sampson still on the board at pick No. 124. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick159
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
They robbed the room for Danny Stutsman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick177
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick183
Rnd6
Devin Neal
Devin Neal in the 183rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick201
Rnd6
Smael Mondon Jr.
They will replay Smael Mondon Jr. at the 201st pick for years; that is how good the value is. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick215
Rnd6
Kalel Mullings
Circle this one: Kalel Mullings at the 215th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220
Rnd7
Cam Skattebo
Taking Cam Skattebo in slot 220 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253
Rnd7
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez in Round 7, Pick 35 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
