Draft Grade — Steelers

The Steelers let Proctor fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Steelers watched Josh Proctor slide 45 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They will need Hopper to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line, and a steal at that.
Pick52 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Zach Frazier while clear needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick84 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brenden Rice at the 84th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Value with a capital V on Khyree Jackson in pick No. 120, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick121 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 121st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick198 Rnd6 Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in Round 6, Pick 23 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238 Rnd7 Josh Proctor
The board fumbled Josh Proctor all the way to pick 238, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
