FutureA
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a B to match. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 119 spots for Trente Jones, and value like that does not grow back.
Everything downstream of J.J. McCarthy depends on J.J. McCarthy, and the building knows it. That Bullard pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In pick 2 they get a go-to option on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
This one needs a full-page explanation: J.J. McCarthy in the 9th overall pick, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick50
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A clean, defensible pick in No. 50 with a little surplus value in Xavier Worthy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick75
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard in slot 75 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick122
Rnd4
Trente Jones
They reached into another round for Trente Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick144
Rnd5
Josh Newton
A straight-up fair deal on Josh Newton at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
