Draft Grade — Jaguars

The Jaguars drew a line under the quarterback search with Sanders: B-.

Somebody in the 141st pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Jaguars sat still while Kaleb Johnson, the No. 51 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

Badger has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Shedeur Sanders is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They went 8 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In pick No. 1 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick35 Rnd2 Grey Zabel
They reached into another round for Grey Zabel, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick66 Rnd3 Tyler Booker
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Booker in the 66th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick92 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
They talked themselves into Zy Alexander at the 92nd pick, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102 Rnd4 Jay Higgins
They will replay Jay Higgins at pick 102 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick129 Rnd4 Gunnar Helm
A wild overpay on Gunnar Helm in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick141 Rnd5 Kaleb Johnson
They barely believed it either: Kaleb Johnson still on the board at Round 5, Pick 3. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick178 Rnd6 Elijhah Badger
This one needs a full-page explanation: Elijhah Badger in pick No. 178, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick196 Rnd6 Jake Slaughter
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jake Slaughter well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick217 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
They reached a country mile for Shilo Sanders at slot 217, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
