Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Mendoza is the Raiders' new face under center. Grade: B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Roman Hemby at No. 183. The Raiders jumped the board by 85 and dared it to prove them wrong. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

Whatever Fernando Mendoza becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Taaffe. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
They paid sticker price for Fernando Mendoza in the 1st overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick36 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt at the 36th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe at pick 67 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick102 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette slipping to Round 4, Pick 2 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117 Rnd4 Blake Miller
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Miller at slot 117, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick134 Rnd4 Skyler Gill-Howard
By-the-book stuff, Skyler Gill-Howard at pick No. 134 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick174 Rnd5 Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson in pick No. 174 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick180 Rnd6 Josh Moten
No drama and no debate, Josh Moten went about where he belonged in No. 180. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick183 Rnd6 Roman Hemby
A wild overpay on Roman Hemby in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick219 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet in the 219th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
