FutureB-
The Cowboys won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. The Michael Jurgens pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 117 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
On value alone, Burke makes the weekend a net positive. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
The Cowboys indulged a want in Bishop while a need in tight end stayed open. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In slot 28 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick78
Rnd3
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton at No. 78 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick81
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
They took TreVeyon Henderson at par in Round 3, Pick 17, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick89
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
You do not let a cornerback like Denzel Burke reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Jaylan Ford
They talked themselves into Jaylan Ford at the 94th overall pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick96
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
They went early on Braelon Allen in pick No. 96, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
Pick116
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
A quiet steal in No. 116: Blake Fisher for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks in pick 124 is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick133
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: Cole Bishop adds a safety while tight end keeps waiting.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
Taking Jordan Travis in Round 5, Pick 38 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick194
Rnd6
Tatum Bethune
A reach for Tatum Bethune in pick No. 194; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick212
Rnd6
Sheridan Jones
Sheridan Jones in slot 212 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215
Rnd6
Zion Logue
Zion Logue at the 215th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick245
Rnd7
Michael Jurgens
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Michael Jurgens. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
