Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Texans: B. The rest of the league had time to spare on Devin Culp; the Texans did not wait, grabbing him 84 spots ahead at the 220th overall pick.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick86
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
They barely believed it either: Malachi Corley still on the board at slot 86. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick89
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
They robbed the room for Devontez Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
They jumped the gun on Braelon Allen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick123
Rnd4
Christian Jones
A conviction pick on Christian Jones at Round 4, Pick 23 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick125
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams in pick No. 125 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127
Rnd4
Andru Phillips
Circle this one: Andru Phillips at No. 127 is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick188
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in the 188th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220
Rnd6
Devin Culp
Devin Culp at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick247
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
Sheridan Jones at the 247th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
