FutureA
A solid, sensible weekend for the Browns: B+. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Browns started one anyway for Monroe Freeling, 39 picks ahead of schedule. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Reese steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The Caelen Carson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In No. 12 they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 24 they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot.
Pick39
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick70
Rnd3
Monroe Freeling
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Monroe Freeling. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick107
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
They paid sticker price for Zachariah Branch in Round 4, Pick 7, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick139
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at slot 139 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick144
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
No edge and no loss on Ted Hurst in Round 5, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Treydan Stukes
By-the-book stuff, Treydan Stukes at the 147th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick204
Rnd6
Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona at pick No. 204 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jacobe Johnson
The board had cheaper options than Jacobe Johnson at the 221st pick, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick248
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at No. 248 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
