Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
D+
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
Haulcy should have been long gone. The Dolphins pounced, and earned a D+. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Dolphins shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
The Dolphins indulged a want in Scott while a need in linebacker stayed open. The Haulcy pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brandon Cisse. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick43
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Good price on Emmanuel Pregnon in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
Steal is underselling it; Antonio Williams at pick 75 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick82
Rnd3
Akheem Mesidor
They barely believed it either: Akheem Mesidor still on the board at pick No. 82. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
A running back of that caliber at the 87th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Keionte Scott adds a cornerback and leaves linebacker untouched.
Pick96
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
Somehow A.J. Haulcy was still sitting there in No. 96, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Jack Endries at pick 112 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick128
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 128, where Trinidad Chambliss graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
The board had DeMonte Capehart higher than Round 5, Pick 11, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick181
Rnd6
Earnest Greene III
They read the board right and Earnest Greene III was the payoff at slot 181. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
