Coleman should have been long gone. The Dolphins pounced, and earned a C-. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jonah Coleman got past him. The Dolphins do not have to explain a thing at pick 111. A weekend of give and take that grades a C-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered. C.J. Gardner-Johnson gives the group a proven body among the projects.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
In pick 22 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick57
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Taking Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 57 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick75
Rnd3
Emmanuel Pregnon
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Emmanuel Pregnon in the 75th pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick86
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter in the 86th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jake Golday
Somehow Jake Golday was still sitting there in slot 87, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick89
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Circle this one: Connor Lew at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick90
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
Keionte Scott at Round 3, Pick 26 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jonah Coleman
They barely believed it either: Jonah Coleman still on the board at No. 111. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123
Rnd4
Deion Burks
A slide stopped in slot 123, with Deion Burks worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick129
Rnd4
Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon in the Round 4 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149
Rnd5
Tim Keenan III
Value with a capital V on Tim Keenan III in Round 5, Pick 11, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick202
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Taylen Green in pick No. 202 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227
Rnd7
Josh Cuevas
A tidy little value on Josh Cuevas in pick 227, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
