Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Dolphins for Slaughter: B-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jake Slaughter got past him. The Dolphins do not have to explain a thing at slot 75. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Gill-Howard reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson in Round 2, Pick 11 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the 75th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick87 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Nothing to complain about; Zakee Wheatley went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick90 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
They barely believed it either: Eli Stowers still on the board at slot 90. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111 Rnd4 Skyler Gill-Howard
A wild overpay on Skyler Gill-Howard in pick No. 111, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149 Rnd5 Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts in No. 149 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick227 Rnd7 Joey Aguilar
Nice patience on Joey Aguilar, who had no business lasting to pick 227. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
