Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B-.

The Patriots torched the value chart for Akheem Mesidor, taking him 32 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

With wide receiver and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Davis. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
In No. 30 they get juice off the edge, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick62 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
A straight-up fair deal on Caleb Tiernan at the 62nd pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick94 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
They liked D'Angelo Ponds enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 94. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick125 Rnd4 Blake Miller
Blake Miller at pick No. 125 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Pick130 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tacario Davis adds a cornerback and leaves wide receiver and interior defensive lineman untouched.
Pick168 Rnd5 Terion Stewart
Terion Stewart slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189 Rnd6 Miles Kitselman
A tidy little value on Miles Kitselman in the 189th pick, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick200 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
No edge and no loss on Bryce Foster in the 200th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick207 Rnd6 Luke Altmyer
Nice patience on Luke Altmyer, who had no business lasting to pick 207. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick209 Rnd6 Peyton Bowen
Peyton Bowen in No. 209 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick246 Rnd7 Ja'Keem Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Keem Jackson. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
