JAGUAR1 DRAFTING FOR THEJaguars
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
B-
ValueC+

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Jaguars checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. Of all the ways to open, the Jaguars chose the head-scratcher, spending the 79th pick on Maason Smith with interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots still wide open. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Powers-Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They banked enough surplus on Mahogany to cover a lot of smaller sins.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the 17th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick48
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They paid a round early for Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 48, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick79
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in the Round 3 slot leaves interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots for later.
Pick96
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
A slide stopped in the 96th overall pick, with Christian Mahogany worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick114
Rnd4
Cam Hart
They went early on Cam Hart in Round 4, Pick 14, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick116
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at No. 116 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick155
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
No drama and no debate, Ben Sinnott went about where he belonged in pick No. 155. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195
Rnd6
Bru McCoy
Bru McCoy at slot 195 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick211
Rnd6
Akheem Mesidor
A premium they did not need to pay, Akheem Mesidor a notch or two before his time. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick237
Rnd7
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A conviction pick on Antwaun Powell-Ryland at Round 7, Pick 17 that the board grades a round light. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
