Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Jaguars kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

Priorities are a choice, and the Jaguars made a strange one, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE in the 79th pick with interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots crying out for the pick instead.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Powers-Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Sturdivant falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In slot 17 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick48 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 48th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick79 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots open.
Pick96 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany is a better player than pick No. 96 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick114 Rnd4 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in pick 114 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick116 Rnd4 Max Melton
A tidy little value on Max Melton in the 116th pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick155 Rnd5 Cole Bishop
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cole Bishop in the Round 5 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick195 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Gray at No. 195, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick211 Rnd6 Sheridan Jones
No edge and no loss on Sheridan Jones in slot 211; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
