FutureD
A mixed bag for the Jaguars, and a C+ to match. The Jaguars looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jared Wiley at pick 127 regardless, 79 picks early. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Puni where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
So much rides on Chop Robinson that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
A premium they did not need to pay, Cooper Beebe a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at pick 48 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick96
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 33 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in No. 114 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick116
Rnd4
Dwight McGlothern
A wild overpay on Dwight McGlothern in slot 116, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123
Rnd4
Kitan Oladapo
They reached a country mile for Kitan Oladapo at the 123rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jared Wiley
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jared Wiley this early at slot 127. It fills a real need, too.
Pick153
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
They did well to land Luke McCaffrey in pick 153, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick187
Rnd6
Tahj Washington
They paid sticker price for Tahj Washington in No. 187, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick188
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
A real head-scratcher, Sam Hartman in the 188th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jalen Coker
Value said wait; Jalen Coker in pick No. 197 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick212
Rnd6
Rasheen Ali
Rasheen Ali at Round 6, Pick 37 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
