FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B to prove it. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Trajan Jeffcoat at the Round 7 slot, a reach of 57 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Tampa to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 10 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick66
Rnd3
T.J. Tampa
Value with a capital V on T.J. Tampa in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick94
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They paid up for Zak Zinter at slot 94 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick104
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Theo Johnson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick123
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127
Rnd4
Christian Jones
Christian Jones at the 127th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick188
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
A reach on Jaylan Ford in pick 188; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247
Rnd7
Rasheen Ali
They went early on Rasheen Ali in Round 7, Pick 27, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick251
Rnd7
Trajan Jeffcoat
Value said wait; Trajan Jeffcoat in the 251st pick says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
