FutureF
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C for the Texans. Some picks age like wine; Mekhi Wingo at slot 86 will need to, sitting 27 spots clear of his grade. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Abrams-Draine pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and tight end still on the board. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Barrett.
Hit on Dallas Turner and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In No. 23 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick46
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at pick 46 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick59
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
They let T.J. Tampa come to them and pounced at pick No. 59. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick70
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at the 70th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick73
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kris Abrams-Draine adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback and tight end untouched.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jaylen Wright
They did well to land Jaylen Wright in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick86
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
A real head-scratcher, Mekhi Wingo in the 86th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick124
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster in No. 124 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the 128th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Michael Barrett in slot 236, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
