Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cowboys kept it disciplined and banked a B. The Cowboys bet big and early on Nohl Williams, 90 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Simon at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
A slide stopped in No. 12, with Ashton Jeanty worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at the Round 2 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
They paid up for Tez Johnson at pick 76 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick115
Rnd4
Tory Horton
Tory Horton at pick No. 115 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148
Rnd5
Howard Cross III
They paid a round early for Howard Cross III in slot 148, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick168
Rnd5
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton in Round 5, Pick 31 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick170
Rnd5
Nohl Williams
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nohl Williams well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick173
Rnd5
Cody Simon
Cody Simon in Round 5, Pick 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick186
Rnd6
Shilo Sanders
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Shilo Sanders. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick209
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell in slot 209 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
A wild overpay on Garrett Dellinger in pick 248, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
