Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB-
Daniels is the Patriots' new face under center. Grade: B+. The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Will Shipley, the No. 133 name on the board, sitting there at No. 229 like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Reaching for Sinnott left real value on the table behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
Pick34
Rnd2
Malik Nabers
You do not let a wide receiver like Malik Nabers reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims in Round 2, Pick 6 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick68
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at pick 68 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick82
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at slot 82 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Roman Wilson in the 87th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick98
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick104
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Value said wait; Ben Sinnott in pick No. 104 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick136
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Nice patience on Javon Foster, who had no business lasting to the 136th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick182
Rnd6
Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube in No. 182 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick229
Rnd7
Will Shipley
They robbed the room for Will Shipley here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
