Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A
ValueA NeedB- TradesA+ FutureA+
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Sabb: A.

You could see the war room lean forward. Keon Sabb at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. This is how you run a draft, and the A reflects it.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Michael Taaffe and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick52 Rnd2 Michael Taaffe
The board had Michael Taaffe higher than No. 52, and the safety fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick62 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. at Round 2, Pick 30 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick87 Rnd3 CJ Allen
They will replay CJ Allen at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123 Rnd4 Kamari Ramsey
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Kamari Ramsey in the 123rd overall pick leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick155 Rnd5 Keon Sabb
They robbed the room for Keon Sabb here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick194 Rnd6 Antonio Kite
Somehow Antonio Kite was still sitting there in slot 194, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick226 Rnd7 Trey Leckner
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Trey Leckner at the 226th pick is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jalen Catalon
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 229, where Jalen Catalon graded well above the range. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick248 Rnd7 PJ Williams
PJ Williams in No. 248 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
