Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Jaguars did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

The Jaguars torched the value chart for Luke Elzinga, taking him 19 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The Knight Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In No. 5 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36 Rnd2 Benjamin Morrison
Benjamin Morrison at the 36th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick70 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
They read the board right and Demetrius Knight Jr. was the payoff at slot 70. The roster fit checks out.
Pick88 Rnd3 Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro at the 88th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick107 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
A straight-up fair deal on Anthony Belton at pick No. 107, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jaylin Lane
Jaylin Lane at Round 4, Pick 24 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick142 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
Nothing to complain about; LeQuint Allen went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick182 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in the 182nd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick194 Rnd6 Luke Elzinga
Value said wait; Luke Elzinga in slot 194 says they were not listening. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick221 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
No drama and no debate, Desmond Watson went about where he belonged in the 221st overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
