Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Dial: D-.

The phones were a trap the 49ers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with running back and edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Dial. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 63. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
Fair-plus on Christian Haynes, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick82 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick94 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with running back and edge rusher open.
Pick98 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
A slide stopped in the 98th pick, with Michael Hall Jr. worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick118 Rnd4 Max Melton
They bypassed pressing needs at running back and edge rusher to take Max Melton, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick145 Rnd5 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki at No. 145 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis slid further than he should have, and pick No. 147 is lovely value for the quarterback. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
By-the-book stuff, Jaylan Ford at the 176th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick209 Rnd6 Tarheeb Still
They let Tarheeb Still come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 34. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick214 Rnd6 Marcellas Dial
They will replay Marcellas Dial at slot 214 for years; that is how good the value is. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick215 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at pick 215 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick227 Rnd7 Erick All
Erick All at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick249 Rnd7 Ryan Watts
Ryan Watts in No. 249 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
