The Colts let Nelson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. Call it larceny. Jack Nelson sat on the board until slot 232, and the Colts did not need to be asked twice.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Jones has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
No drama and no debate, Tyler Warren went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 14. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick45
Rnd2
Demetrius Knight Jr.
They jumped the gun on Demetrius Knight Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
The board had cheaper options than Cam Skattebo at slot 90, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Sai'vion Jones
Sai'vion Jones at pick No. 117 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
They liked Jackson Slater enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 127. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick151
Rnd5
Tommi Hill
A straight-up fair deal on Tommi Hill at No. 151, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick189
Rnd6
Dorian Strong
Circle this one: Dorian Strong at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson in the 232nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
