Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB+ FutureB-
The Buccaneers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Buccaneers reached some 164 spots for Roman Hemby, and value like that does not grow back. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Cooper Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trade work was a quiet net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 CJ Allen
Fair-plus on CJ Allen, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick49 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in the 49th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick77 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Omar Cooper Jr. in No. 77, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick92 Rnd3 Chandler Rivers
Chandler Rivers at the 92nd pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick97 Rnd3 Michael Trigg
A straight-up fair deal on Michael Trigg at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick116 Rnd4 Kyle Louis
A big swing on Kyle Louis at Round 4, Pick 16, well ahead of any board in the building. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick127 Rnd4 Logan Jones
They paid sticker price for Logan Jones in pick No. 127, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on CJ Daniels. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick138 Rnd4 Gracen Halton
They took Gracen Halton at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick153 Rnd5 Beau Stephens
Value with a capital V on Beau Stephens in Round 5, Pick 15, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick161 Rnd5 Keagen Trost
They did well to land Keagen Trost in the 161st pick, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick171 Rnd5 VJ Payne
They left a pile of value on the table to take VJ Payne this early at slot 171. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick175 Rnd5 Matt Gulbin
No drama and no debate, Matt Gulbin went about where he belonged in the 175th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick178 Rnd5 Lander Barton
Lander Barton in No. 178 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick193 Rnd6 Roman Hemby
Value said wait; Roman Hemby in slot 193 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak is a better player than No. 241 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick250 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
They read the board right and Diego Pavia was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 34. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick256 Rnd7 Marvin Jones Jr.
Marvin Jones Jr. in the 256th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
