FOXY KNOXY DRAFTING FOR THESeahawks
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Seahawks. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Seahawks took Jaleel Johnson a full 70 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
That Echoles pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Cam Coleman
In No. 15 they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick47
Rnd2
Will Echoles
Will Echoles in pick 47 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick79
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
The board fumbled Kade Pieper all the way to the 79th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick101
Rnd3
Greg Johnson
Greg Johnson in slot 101 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick102
Rnd3
Dom Nichols
Dom Nichols at Round 3, Pick 38 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick135
Rnd4
Marcus Neal Jr.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Marcus Neal Jr. at safety with quarterback and tight end open.
Pick152
Rnd5
Eli Bowen
No edge and no loss on Eli Bowen in slot 152; it is a wash and a sensible one. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick175
Rnd5
Elijah Paige
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Elijah Paige. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178
Rnd5
Hollywood Smothers
Hollywood Smothers at pick No. 178 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick195
Rnd6
J'Mond Tapp
A big swing on J'Mond Tapp at Round 6, Pick 15, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jaleel Johnson
Jaleel Johnson at the 214th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Edwin Spillman
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edwin Spillman at No. 236. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
