Arcadiuz DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Echoles: B. The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Will Echoles, the No. 14 name on the board, sitting there at pick 75 like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They will need McCray to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Jeremiah Smith
In pick 13 they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
Matayo Uiagalelei
They robbed the room for Matayo Uiagalelei here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Will Echoles
Will Echoles in the 75th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112
Rnd4
Terry Moore
You do not let a safety like Terry Moore reach the 112th pick and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jordan Marshall
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Marshall. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183
Rnd6
Coen Echols
Coen Echols at slot 183 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick195
Rnd6
C.J. Fite
C.J. Fite in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212
Rnd6
LJ McCray
LJ McCray at No. 212 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick251
Rnd7
Braylan Shelby
Braylan Shelby at No. 251 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
