Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall
D-
ValueB
NeedB-

FutureB
The Broncos bled value on every deal, hence the D-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Broncos started one anyway for Sam Hartman, 40 picks ahead of schedule. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Ford. The Broncos clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In No. 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick26
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick76
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
A clean, defensible pick in pick 76 with a little surplus value in Ja'Lynn Polk. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick85
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
A quiet steal in slot 85: Xavier Legette for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick89
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus slid further than he should have, and pick No. 89 is lovely value for the edge rusher. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
They paid sticker price for Tyler Davis in the 120th overall pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at the 124th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick135
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They did well to land Johnny Wilson in pick No. 135, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick144
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
Nehemiah Pritchett slipping to the 144th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick148
Rnd5
Beau Brade
They let Beau Brade come to them and pounced at slot 148. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick200
Rnd6
Steele Chambers
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Steele Chambers at the Round 6 slot is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick202
Rnd6
Kendall Milton
A tidy bit of business in No. 202, where Kendall Milton graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick205
Rnd6
M.J. Devonshire
Circle this one: M.J. Devonshire at Round 6, Pick 30 is a fall that decides a draft. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick206
Rnd6
Tahj Washington
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tahj Washington in pick 206. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
They robbed the room for Jaylan Ford here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick243
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at Round 7, Pick 23 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick246
Rnd7
Ryan Cooper Jr.
They read the board right and Ryan Cooper Jr. was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
