The steal of the weekend belongs to the Steelers and Howard: D+. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Steelers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Howard steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Emeka Egbuka in slot 34. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick52
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Watts went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick83
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 19 is lovely value for the running back. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick122
Rnd4
Will Howard
Taking Will Howard in No. 122 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
