Draft Grade — Colts
Overall

TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Colts. The tape said wait; the Colts did not. John Williams went at the 232nd pick, a good 34 picks before the board was ready. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Jeanty value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick 14 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Watts at No. 45, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick80
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mason Taylor in the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at Round 4, Pick 15 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick151
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
They jumped the gun on Seth McLaughlin, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
They liked Jay Higgins enough to skip the value, taking him in the 189th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232
Rnd7
John Williams
They talked themselves into John Williams at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
