Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureB-
The Raiders found their guy under center in Simpson: D-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Raiders started one anyway for Aamil Wagner, 40 picks ahead of schedule. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They have staked the next five years on Ty Simpson, which is the only story that really matters here.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In No. 2 they get the arm they will build around, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In pick 16 they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Chris Johnson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Johnson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick36
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at Round 2, Pick 4 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick44
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick67
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at slot 67 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd4
Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton at No. 102 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
They did well to land Davison Igbinosun in pick No. 117, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134
Rnd4
Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick175
Rnd5
Zane Durant
They paid sticker price for Zane Durant in pick 175, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick185
Rnd6
Riley Nowakowski
This one needs a full-page explanation: Riley Nowakowski in Round 6, Pick 4, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick208
Rnd6
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott in slot 208 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels at the 219th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
