The Vikings bled value on every deal, hence the C-. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Vikings did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Call it a C- and check back in two years.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Heidenreich left real value on the table behind him. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Dillon Thieneman
In the 18th pick they get a downhill hitter at safety, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jacob Rodriguez
No drama and no debate, Jacob Rodriguez went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 17. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick82
Rnd3
Logan Jones
The board had cheaper options than Logan Jones at pick 82, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick97
Rnd3
Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick163
Rnd5
Zxavian Harris
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zxavian Harris in slot 163. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick196
Rnd6
VJ Payne
VJ Payne at pick No. 196 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick234
Rnd7
Eli Heidenreich
Eli Heidenreich in No. 234 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
