Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC- FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the Panthers for Williams: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Panthers were there to profit. Hykeem Williams, the No. 194 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 3. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The White reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson at Round 2, Pick 6 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70 Rnd3 Iapani Laloulu
They read the board right and Iapani Laloulu was the payoff at slot 70. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Nice patience on Jack Endries, who had no business lasting to the 106th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick184 Rnd6 Malik Hartford
A quiet steal in No. 184: Malik Hartford for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick186 Rnd6 Jordan White
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan White in pick No. 186, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick219 Rnd7 Hykeem Williams
Steal is underselling it; Hykeem Williams at the 219th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
