Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureC
The phones sank the Commanders this weekend: D+.

The Commanders bet big and early on Joe Milton III, 98 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

However the rest shakes out, Chambers at that price is a win they earned. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
In pick 7 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick8 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick No. 8 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at No. 27 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick35 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick36 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 4 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick101 Rnd4 Joe Milton III
A real head-scratcher, Joe Milton III in the 101st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick103 Rnd4 DJ James
DJ James at No. 103 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125 Rnd4 Marcus Harris
A reach for Marcus Harris in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick132 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at pick 132 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138 Rnd5 Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas at slot 138 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick181 Rnd6 Anim Dankwah
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Anim Dankwah. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick220 Rnd6 Eyabi Okie-Anoma
They reached into another round for Eyabi Okie-Anoma, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers at the 224th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
