Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueA+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
Hood should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B+.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Colton Hood slide 187 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 David Bailey
Somehow David Bailey was still sitting there in pick 31, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 Spencer Fano
Spencer Fano at pick No. 63 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick99 Rnd3 Chase Bisontis
They will replay Chase Bisontis at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick108 Rnd4 Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at No. 108 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jordyn Tyson
The board fumbled Jordyn Tyson all the way to Round 4, Pick 31, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick169 Rnd5 Jermod McCoy
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jermod McCoy in slot 169, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick200 Rnd6 Akheem Mesidor
They robbed the room for Akheem Mesidor here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick207 Rnd6 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in the 207th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick210 Rnd6 J.C. Davis
You do not let an offensive lineman like J.C. Davis reach Round 6, Pick 31 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick213 Rnd6 Colton Hood
Taking Colton Hood in the 213th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
