Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB+
Quarterback settled, Daniels in the fold, and a D for the Commanders.

The war room fell hard for Joe Milton III, and it showed at pick No. 169: 47 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In pick 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick25 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In pick No. 27 they get a building block for the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in the 36th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie at slot 67 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick78 Rnd3 Brandon Dorlus
They took Brandon Dorlus at par in the 78th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick100 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in pick No. 100 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick126 Rnd4 Xavier Thomas
A reach for Xavier Thomas in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick138 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
They went early on Tommy Eichenberg in the 138th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick139 Rnd5 Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker in Round 5, Pick 3 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at pick 152 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick169 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at slot 169 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick222 Rnd7 Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson at No. 222 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
