Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Broncos to a D-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Brady Cook at No. 191 is 80 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Landing Reed that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51
Rnd2
Quinshon Judkins
They paid a round early for Quinshon Judkins in pick 51, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick85
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
A premium they did not need to pay, Tez Johnson a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick122
Rnd4
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at pick No. 122 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick151
Rnd5
Jeffrey Bassa
They barely believed it either: Jeffrey Bassa still on the board at slot 151. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick191
Rnd6
Brady Cook
Brady Cook at the 191st pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick197
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
The board fumbled JJ Pegues all the way to pick 197, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick208
Rnd6
LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester at the 208th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed in the 232nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
